Positions available for campus activists

JET (Jewish Excell Teams) is a new project of the North American Jewish Student Alliance. We are now seeking highly-motivated Jewish students to form JETs on selected colleges in the United States and Canada.

The goal of JET to stimulate passionate Jewish involvement on campus. Through its activities the JET will help build a community on the campus that emulates the values of Jews helping other Jews, Jews learning about and experiencing their cultural and religious heritage and Jews caring about Jewish continuity.

Each JET will consist of a student JET captain and two members.

The JET captain will have the responsibilities of:

  • 1. Recruiting and maintaining JET members.
  • 2. Convening and running regular JET meetings.
  • 3. Maintain regular contact with the field coordinator.
  • 4. Inspiring the JET members to do their utmost to build an activist environment on campus.
  • 5. To be the spokesperson for the JET whenever necessary.

    JET meetings

Each JET will meet a minimal of 15 times during a semester (approximately once per week). Each meeting will last a minimum of 45 minutes. Meetings will be divided into those that are for program planning and reporting (50%) and those that will be for internal education of the JET members (50%).

At least once a year, each JET will have a weekend together to learn and plan. This may occur together with other JETs from other campuses.

    JET Activities

Each JET will commit to minimally undertake the following activities per semester where they will actively recruit their friends and peers to attend:

  • One social action program of benefit to the Jewish community (e.g. visiting Jewish Seniors, speaking at a Jewish school).
  • One Weekend program (Shabbat or Sunday or both)
  • One Shabbat dinner with program
  • Three Israel Activism programs
  • One Jewish experiential (e.g. Tu B'Shvat Seder, Challah baking) or learning program

An activity will be defined as one that involves at least fifteen participants, lasts for at least 45 minutes. Substitutes to the above list can be made with prior approval but the cell must maintain a mixed agenda (for example it cannot only run Israel programs).

    Stipends and grants

  • The JET captain would receive $750 stipend per semester.
  • Each JET member would receive $350 stipend per semester.
  • Each JET would have a programming budget of $1000 per semester.
